• The Niagara Regional Agricultur­al Society owns and operates the Niagara Regional Exhibition.

• The society began in 1832.

• It was first located at Ephriam Hopkins’ farm and hotel.

• A new associatio­n was created a year after Welland was establishe­d in 1852. It was based on Coleman’s Inn in Port Robinson.

• It later moved to Merritsvil­le.

• The fair eventually became to big for the 16 acres.

• On May 31 1967 the Welland County Agricultur­al Society bought 75 acres.

• The land located at Highways 406 and 58 would be used for a week long fair once a year, agricultur­al and commercial purposes as well as recreation­al and cultural purposes.

• The society was founded in 1853 by provincial charter.

• In 1970 the name was changed from the Welland County Agricultur­al Society to Niagara Regional Exhibition.

• In 1971 the name was changed again to Niagara Regional Agricultur­e Society.

• The society aims to promote improvemen­ts in and advance agricultur­e, domestic industry and rural life.
