Living rural? Don’t expect it to conform to your wants

-

You want the novelty of living in the country, with photos for your Christmas cards taken on the neighbour’s farm, but complain when livestock gets loose?

My family’s been in Fonthill for more than 150 years, and I can tell you from our black and white photos, this is Niagara. The commodity that attracted you in the first place.

Henry Giles named Fonthill. Thank God the Quakers can’t hear opinions of townspeople on hard work and the soil that grows our food today.

Concerned about farmers’ budgets? Check the location of your Sobeys produce. What have you done for your part?

Why should farmers’ livelihoods be destroyed by board members with two-car garages and 1.5-child homes? From this side of the farmers’ market stall, we know a well-kept front lawn won’t feed anyone. We’re proud we grow our own food and raise livestock for our college tuitions. That ‘nuisance’ is someone’s employment. Danielle Giles Ridgeville
