A Niagara Falls dog owner who had no place to live ended up violating five court orders when he returned home to stay at his mother’s residence. Trevor Brighty pleaded guilty Monday in Ontario Court of Justice to breaching five court orders on July 28. The orders included not to have contact with certain individuals, not to attend certain locations, to keep the peace and be of good behaviour, and failing to report to the probation office. Court heard Brighty was prohibited from being at his mother’s address because of an earlier dispute with a neighbour involving a mischief charge and for which he had been placed on probation. Defence lawyer Mark Evans said his client became increasingly frustrated because he has a limited income and was staying at a motel with his dog. It was costing him about $100 a day and he was running out of money. “He was tempted to go back home and stay with his mom,” said Evans. “He was in a tough spot and had nowhere to go.” Brighty had 32 days of pretrial custody for which he received a credit of 48 days. Judge Tory Colvin sentenced Brighty to time served and he was released later in the day.
