Reeves running for councillor in Berwick

- Rod Reeves

Rod Reeves, a candidate in Berwick, recently provided responses to a Q&A SaltWire is providing to municipal election candidates.

Q. What’s your full name? A. Rod Reeves

Q. What position are you running for?

A. Councillor on Berwick town council

Q. Where are you from?

A. I grew up just across the overpass in Somerset, so it was nice to be home.

Q. What do you feel is the key challenge facing the community/region and how would you work to address it?

A. Not unlike every other small community in Nova Scotia, Berwick is not without its challenges. The COVID19 pandemic has certainly magnified those challenges and it doesn’t look like it is going away any time soon.

It’s a situation that has forced us as a council to make some extremely difficult decisions as of late. Decisions we certainly haven’t taken lightly. Probably not since the closing of the Larsen plant has the town faced the sort of financial challenges that it has faced this year. Staff and council have worked diligently to minimize the impact.

Another challenge that the current situation has presented for me and for others who have made the decision to offer or re-offer for council, is the issue of door-to-door campaigning. It’s truly one of the things about running for public office that I really enjoy and I believe is a critically important part of the election process. The face to face contact with you, the residents of Berwick, is how we find out what truly matters to you. However, some of you may be uncomfortable with someone knocking on your door.

Q. How can people contact you?

A. Phone 902-691-0524 (call or text), or e-mail councillor. reeves@berwick.ca.

I can either contact you by phone and we can have a chat, or we can meet in person, where all COVID-19 safety precautions can be taken.
