Zebian running in Kentville

- Andrew Zebian. SALTWIRE STAFF

Andrew Zebian, a candidate in Kentville, recently recently provided responses to a Q&A SaltWire is providing to municipal election candidates.

Q. What is your full name?

A. Andrew Zebian

Q. What position are you running for?

A. Kentville town council

Q. Where are you from?

A. I was born and raised in Kings County.

Q. What did you do before you decided to run for office?

A. I have been in business for 24 years, running successful businesses in the Valley. In 2013, I bought the Phinneys property and re-opened this century-year-old clothing store.

Q. Why have you chosen to run in this election campaign?

A. Kentville is home. With any home, the idea is to always keep it maintained and always make it better. I have been watching our council for years and I know we need change and I know we can grow more. I want to see this town thrive and there is so much potential here.

Q. What strengths would you bring to council if you are elected?

A. I will bring decades of business and money management experience to council. This is lacking on council and the proof is in the spending and the losses. There needs to be accountability with the way our tax dollars are being used and wasted. I will make unbiased and informed decisions based on input directly from the public. I believe in full transparency and the people should know what is going on in Kentville. How can decisions be made by council if the citizens have not been consulted? Tax dollars need to be spent accordingly. And when we all work together, we gain together.

Q. What do you see as the biggest strength/asset of the community/ region and what measures would you take to capitalize on them?

A. We have a beautiful town full of wonderful people who always come together when need be. We have a great business community; however, I have often felt it does get neglected. We also have so many new residential units under development and this will bring more people here. Kentville needs a new sports complex to keep people here. Kentville has a great tax base, and with all of these new developments, there is no need to raise taxes.

Q. What do you feel is the key challenge facing the community/region and how would you work to address it?

A. I often look at our senior and youth population. I want to provide them something to keep busy.

Kentville needs more affordable housing for those who need help.

Kentville’s business community needs more attention. There are many things that could be done to promote the business district. Making more social media videos, hosting more events and town parties could help bring more people to town.
