Savage running in Kentville

- SALTWIRE STAFF

Cate Savage, a candidate in Kentville, recently provided responses to a Q&A SaltWire is providing to municipal election candidates.

Q. What’s your full name?

A. Catherine (Cate) Savage

Q. What position are you running for?

A. Town council - Town of Kentville

Q. Where are you from?

A. I’m from Halifax originally and relocated to Kentville in 1994 with RBC.

Q. What did you do before you decided to run for office?

A. I currently work as a senior commercial account manager with RBC.

Q. Why have you chosen to run in this election campaign?

A. The past four years has seen many changes. Exciting new projects, taking the town forward and in great shape, and, an unexpected and unimaginable challenge, in the form of a global pandemic, faced head-on by a greater sense of community than even we knew existed. What has not, and will never change, is my dedication to serving the citizens and businesses of the Town of Kentville.

Q. What strengths would you bring to council if you are elected?

A. I believe I add great value to council, including extensive business experience as a banker. There are many aspects to running a town and fiscal responsibility and prudence are key components in the decisionmaking process. In the past four years, I have played a part in, amongst other items: the decision with regards to the sale of the KCA lands to Encore Developments; Ryan's Park, an inclusive development consisting of apartment buildings and a pocket community; development of an accessibility plan for the town.

Q. What do you see as the biggest strength/asset of the community/ region and what measures would you take to capitalize on them?

A. I see Kentville growing. Its residential tax base has grown approximately 4.5 per cent year over year. We are quickly becoming what many consider to be an urban growth center in the province. Kentville has land, which is not easy to come by in the Valley area, that’s poised for development. We have an MPS and LUB that is ripe for amendments and additions that will benefit the town.

Q. What one message do you hope gets out to the voters during this election campaign?

A. The one message I want voters to understand during this election is I ask tough questions. I do my research. I’m a great listener. I want what’s best for the town in order to see it grow and prosper.

Q. How can people contact you?
