- SALTWIRE STAFF

Martha Armstrong, a candidate in Kings County, recently provided responses to a Q&A SaltWire is providing to municipal election candidates. Q. What’s your full name?

A. Martha Armstrong

Q. What position are you running for?

A. I am running for re-election in Kings County, District 4.

Q. What did you do before you decided to run for office?

A. I was born in St. John’s, NL to a military family, moved to Greenwood in 1972 and have been in Kingston/ Greenwood since then. I worked in banking, retail, was a stay-at-home mom for a while and eventually spent 26 years working in our family-owned business started by my father-in-law in 1958.

I was elected to the Kingston Village Commission in 2009, I served the village commission for seven years – four of them as chair.

Q. Why have you chosen to run in this election campaign?

A. As the incumbent in District 4, I feel I still have work to do. I have provided a strong voice to our district and feel it has made a difference at the table.

Kings County council needs to give a voice to all and understand the dynamics between our vibrant agricultural base, business (large and small) and a rural lifestyle people move here to enjoy. We need to make internet for all a priority so people who choose to live and work here are able to do so.

Q. What strengths would you bring to council if you are elected?

A. I believe I offer a unique perspective being a woman, a wife, a mother, an active participant in a familyowned business. My family is rooted in volunteerism and service to the community.

Q. What do you see as the biggest strength/asset of the community/ region and what measures would you take to capitalize on them?

A. The greatest asset of Kings County is its people, the diversity within its borders. We are blessed to have farmers, educators, military personnel, retirees, young and innovative entrepreneurs and many other walks of life who choose to live in Kings County because of its diversity and inclusion. We need to harness these assets and make decisions that can ultimately benefit all.

Q. How can people contact you?
