Wayne Atwater, a candidate in Truro, recently provided responses to a Q&A SaltWire is providing to municipal election candidates.
Q. What’s your full name?
A. Wayne Best Atwater
Q. What position are you running for?
A. Kings County council, District 3 Q. Where are you from?
A. Morden, N.S.
Q. What did you do before you decided to run for office?
A. I am retired after working for 36 years as a civil servant at 14 Wing Greenwood.
Q. Why have you chosen to run in this election campaign?
A. I have previously served for 25 years as a municipal councillor in Kings County. I have also chaired or served on various municipal committees as well as both provincial and federal committees. As councillor, I have always listened to the concerns of the citizens of my municipal district and worked hard to resolve every issue presented to me as best I could.
Q. What strengths would you bring to council if you are elected?
A. I would bring a wealth of experience and a thorough understanding of the workings of a municipal government due to my previous 25 years of service as a municipal councillor. I would pledge my commitment to listen to the people I represent in my district and to work on their behalf to the best of my ability. I would also bring an extensive background of community service, with a proven
track record of getting the job done efficiently and effectively.
Q. What do you see as the biggest strength/asset of the community/ region and what measures would you take to capitalize on them?
A. Kings County is one of the best places to live in Nova Scotia. It is a prime agricultural area with generally good weather, good roads and quality infrastructure. The area features vibrant, friendly communities, competitive land prices with a fair tax rate, and has been blessed in recent years with good economic planning. We must do more to sell our county as open to growth and development to attract more residents to the area. We must continue to ensure that our economic planning leads to economic growth, as well as continue to promote commercial and recreational development.
