Killam running in Kings County
Dick Killam, who is running for a postion in District 3 for Municipality of the County of Kings, recently provided responses to a Q&A SaltWire is providing to municipal election candidates.
Q. What’s your name and where are you from?
A. My name is Dick Killam. I was born and raised on a family apple/ dairy farm in Woodville and live in Halls Harbour with my wife Madonna. Together we have four children and seven grandchildren.
Q. What did you do before you decided to run for office?
A. Previously served on council, professional photographer, and more recently a private wine tour guide and tractor trailer operator travelling throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
Q. Why have you chosen to run in this election campaign?
A. To offer my previous municipal council experience, my spirit and energy to represent residents and communities in District 3 and Kings County. We live in challenging times with many changes that will impact our lives, our children and grandchildren. I want to be involved in working toward positive change and sustainable growth. My many years of community volunteer service has also given me the tools to make things happen as well as the skills to work together to create healthy communities.
Q. What do you see as the biggest strength/assets of the community/ region and how would you work to address it?
A. The biggest strengths/assets we have in Kings County is our diversity within our people and resources: two First Nation communities; agricultural
industry; tourism; fishing; artist community; wine industries; educational/ health/recreational facilities; police services; towns and villages; rural and Urban communities; volunteer spirit seen in our proud volunteer fire service and many community organizations; our close connection to the Bay of Fundy as well as two UNESCO sites located in Kings County namely Grand Pre and the Bay of Fundy, home to the world’s highest tides; regional hospital, Acadia University, CFB Greenwood, Michelin Tire. These combined strengths are the glue that makes Kings County special and a desired place to retire, work and live.
Q. What one message do you hope gets out to the voters during this during this election campaign?
A. First of all, VOTE. The next four years will set the stage for what is facing us in the decades to come. Our children and grandchildren are counting on good leadership and dedicated commitment to the above issues from the councillors you choose to represent you.
