The Valley Wire

Real estate has been the ‘buzz’ in N.S.

“If you do what you love you’ll never work a day.” I think of this quite often.

As corny as it may sound, that’s how I feel about my real estate career. It’s always rewarding and exciting to help others with their real estate needs. I’m truly privileged to have a real estate license in Nova Scotia.

I’ve been a licensed realtor in the province for more than 25 years and am looking forward to many more. I’m a lifelong resident of the Annapolis Valley and a graduate of Acadia university in Wolfville. My new monthly column will provide tips, information and perspective on the Nova Scotia real estate market. Join me on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook,

I’m looking forward to sharing information on the real estate market in Nova Scotia in general during the coming months. Also, the process of buying and selling a property, the chaos, trends, prepping your home to sell and the overall excitement of this rewarding process. Let’s also travel throughout Nova Scotia and see what is happening in the real estate market in different counties.

Everyone needs a place to live and what a rewarding part of life it is to own your own home. Practice makes sense when it comes to investing in rental properties, owning commercial real estate, a seasonal property or land as an investment. Whatever the case, I truly feel everyone who can should enter retirement with their principal dwelling as part of their portfolio.

The interest rate when we are renting is 100 per cent. Finding a home maybe easier said than done. I look forward to sharing information to make this process as simple as possible.

If you were following, or have been involved in the real estate market in Nova Scotia in the last few years, it has been a buzz of activity. Probably real estate has been the “buzz” in many communities as our markets have jumped, multiple offers have been more common than other years and we have seen incredible growth in our province as a relocation destination.

The last few years have shown a different pace for sure, sometimes mixed with a bit of chaos for some. In the last two decades we have seen an increase in the number of relocations to Nova Scotia. Often folks are retiring early from another province and relocating in a new home after finishing a career in another location. There seems to be an increase in residents working from home or starting a business there. Often families are looking to enjoy the lifestyle we have here and raise their children in rural Nova Scotia environments.

Let’s be honest, we have a fabulous lifestyle here in Nova Scotia. We are close to waterfronts, enjoy quick access in many areas to the airport, highways and, of course, live in strong communities. I see real estate as a destination for many lifestyles. The market will always change, and the pace of sales is part of this. Nova Scotia will always be a great place to call home. I think our market will continue to stay strong.

A few points I’ve always suggested to my sellers when we are presenting their property for sale are to highlight the community and share what they love about their property and community. Remember the high points about your home in your community will probably be of interest to a potential buyer. Demographics play a role in the people who may choose your home. They may have similar demographics as your family when you purchased your home.

Leave this information typed on the sheet for your viewings. Home buyers will always review and appreciate information you share.

Enjoy the sunshine everyone, the beaches, oceanfront and quaint spots to enjoy your favorite beverages. There is so much to enjoy here in Nova Scotia. I guess that’s why so many people are making it their home.
