Still time to enjoy summer adventures
The summer may by passing quickly, as it always seems to do, but there are still many easy and inexpensive adventures to enjoy.
I love the idea of making a list of a few simple activities and setting a goal to complete them before the summer comes to an end. If you are looking for inspiration, keep reading because I’m sharing a few fantastic options.
Spread joy – How wonderful is the idea of embarking on a “joy spreading” adventure? You could start by buying coffee gift cards and handing them out to strangers. Or you could gather rocks, paint them with cheerful phrases and leave them on a trail for people to find. Brainstorm with your family, get creative and spread some joy!
Have fun with food – Food adventures are my favourite and my kids love them too. If you want to have a bit of summer fun with food, you can try buying food from a truck and having a picnic, challenging yourself to visit three different ice cream stands, attempting a new recipe, hosting a barbecue for friends, letting the kids pick the meals, roasting marshmallows or having breakfast for dinner. Summer is the perfect time for eating ice cream, cooking over a campfire, skipping the dishes and switching up meal routines.
Head outside – Sunny summer days are made for heading outside and getting active. To maximize fun play outdoor sports, hop on a bike, search for a waterfall, try a new hike, embark on a scavenger hunt, go geocaching, seek out a new playground, fly a kite, stargaze, search for beach glass, have an outdoor movie night or camp in the backyard.
Make something – We all tend to have a little extra time during the summer months, so it’s the perfect time to get crafty. It’s a lot of fun, but it’s also a great way to exercise your mind and relieve stress. Younger kids are happy making simple crafts from paper and popsicle sticks, while tweens and teens enjoy using more sophisticated materials like
yarn, textiles and paint. Options for adults include learning calligraphy, refinishing a piece of furniture or creating personalized gifts or home décor with a cutting machine.
Get wet – Summer adventures are synonymous with water and there are numerous ways for all family members to get wet and have some fun. Kids love a
kiddie pool, a splash pad, slip n’ slide, sprinkler in the yard and a good water fight with water balloons and squirt guns. And adults can get in on the fun with hikes to waterfalls, pool days and trips to the beach.
It may be August, but there is still plenty of time to squeeze in a few more summer adventures. I hope I’ve inspired you to use the coming weeks to spread joy, have fun with food, head outside, make something and/or get wet. Summer is short, but the memories you make with your friends and family will last a lifetime.
