B.C. man flees ‘curious’ bear

A Fort St. John man says never again will he go for a backcountry run without bear spray. Tom Coveney was running near the Fernie Alpine Resort in southeast B.C. when he was challenged by a black bear. He says it was “scary and surreal.” The speed of the bear amazed Coveney, who reached safety unharmed. Coveney says he’s thankful the bear was more curious than hungry.
