JAYS POUND MINNESOTA

-

TORONTO — The Blue Jays’ bats awoke, Francisco Liriano found the plate more often than not and both the Red Sox and the Orioles were spanked. For a day, all was right with the alone-in-firstplace Blue Jays during a 15-8 thumping of the visiting Minnesota Twins on Friday. Liriano was effective enough, needing 102 pitches to get through five innings as he recorded his first win as a Blue Jay. Justin Smoak, Josh Donaldson, Darwin Barney and Russell Martin hit home runs for the Jays (72-56), who pulled a game ahead of the Red Sox (71-57).
