FILMS CAN UNITE US

-

Films can unite us, speak to our emotions, and reflect our values. Cinema, at its best, is an inspiring and galvanizing force, one that can express a nation’s identity. Unfortunately, Canadian films can’t hope to compete against the marketing budgets of Hollywood fare, which makes it hard for them to penetrate our culture and survive. Why is that a problem? When your culture is difficult for you to access, then you can’t fully see, appreciate, or share parts of yourself. Celebrations like NCFD 150 keep our culture alive by giving us the opportunity to discover and fall in love with some of our greatest cinematic masterpieces. Canadians know that our diversity, our incredible landscapes and natural resources, coffee and doughnut establishments, athletes, authors, and artists make our country great. It’s time to add our filmmakers to that list. Cinema captures the soul of a nation. By letting these films take root in our consciousness, we can repossess a piece of our collective spirit.
