Failure of animal protection law shame for Canada

-

It may be a shock for some Canadians to learn that our laws — or the lack thereof — regarding animal cruelty and neglect are a disgrace.

Our laws on animal neglect are so weak, offenders get away with nothing but a slap on the wrist. There are loopholes in the law that allow horrendous crimes like acts of bestiality and animal fighting to occur. Importation of shark fins and of cat and dog fur from countries like China are still allowed.

All these issues could have been addressed on Oct. 3. This was the day when Bill C-246, the Modernizing Animal Protections Act, was crushed by Justin Trudeau and his government.

Why? What happened? On behalf of animals — a tremendous SHAME on Trudeau and all who voted against Bill C-246. Marnie Santarella St. Catharines
