Administrator settling into new role

- KRIS DUBE SPECIAL TO POSTMEDIA NEWS

An agreement for shared executive director services between Community Living in Fort Erie and Port Colborne is off to a good start.

Vickie Moreland started overseeing both agencies on July 1, following the planned retirement of Maureen Brown after 14 years with the organization in Fort Erie.

Moreland has been the head administrator at Community Living Port Colborne-Wainfleet for the past 28 years.

“I’m looking forward to getting to know the community more and the great staff we have,” she said of Fort Erie.

Community Living reported there are no plans for an amalgamation of the two organizations and each will remain a separate entity for the foreseeable future.

Another reason to cheer at the Fort Erie location is a new wheelchair accessible van — made possible through a $25,000 donation from the Branscombe Family Foundation. An additional $6,000 was donated through Niagara Community Foundation and another $1,000 was provided by United Parcel Service. Another $19,000 was brought in at last year’s Christmas in Mexico fundraiser.

This increases the Fort Erie fleet to five fully-accessible vehicles.

This year’s holiday-themed event, raising money for another vehicle, will be Christmas in Canada, on Nov. 18 at Fort Erie Leisureplex.
