The Challenge runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, August 19, and Pelham, one of 10 communities in Canada taking part, is the first in Niagara to hold the challenge. Canboro Road will be closed to traffic, between Balfour Street and Welland Road, from 7 a.m. to approximately 7 p.m.

All businesses will remain open and activities and games will be planned throughout the day for people to enjoy.

“Outdoor play and green spaces are essential ingredients to the wellbeing of our societies,” said Vickie vanRavenswaay, Pelham’s director of recreation, culture, and wellness said in the release. “This is a unique opportunity to partner with local businesses to encourage families to get outside, get active, connect to nature and enjoy the outdoors. We are very grateful to Young Sod Farms for their huge contribution to the event. At the end of the day, all the sod is being donated to Strive Niagara and a local family.”

Young Sod Farms is supplying the sod and Dekorte’s Landscaping and Nature’s Own Landscape & Design have joined in to lay it and roll it up again at the end of the day. Fenwick Firefighters Association will water the sod once it’s laid.
