Beamsville woman dies in Hwy. 401 crash
A Beamsville woman killed in a motorcycle crash southwest of Woodstock was a Harley-Davidson enthusiast who loved road trips across North America.
Sandra Mione-Kent was riding her motorcycle west on Highway 401, just west of Foldens Line, when she collided with a car stopped in the middle lane Friday about 5:30 p.m., Oxford OPP said.
The 64-year-old was thrown from her motorcycle, police said, and the car she struck caused a chain-reaction crash involving three other vehicles. Mione-Kent was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. The drivers of the other vehicles involved had minor injuries.
A mother of two, Mione-Kent split her time between Beamsville and San Benito, Texas.
After retiring from a career with Community Living Port Colborne, Mione-Kent ran a jewelry store with her partner, Clyde Kent, a fellow Harley enthusiast. “Their mutual love of riding Harleys took them on many journeys across North America,” an obituary for Mione-Kent read.
Mione-Kent was involved in a handful of motorcycle associations, including the Niagara Harley’s Owners Group, an organization she helped start.
Visitation is Wednesday 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursday 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Tallman Funeral Homes in Vineland. A celebration of life will follow.
Mione-Kent’s death came just two hours before a 46-year-old Ingersoll man was killed in a collision between his motorcycle and a van in Woodstock.
So far, there have been 30 motorcycle deaths — 27 drivers, three passengers — on OPP-patrolled roads in Ontario this year, compared to 36 in all of 2016.
Eleven of this year’s deaths have happened in the OPP’s west region, an area that encompasses southwestern Ontario.
“The safety message here is we have to share the road better,” OPP Sgt. Dave Rektor said Monday.
