Play for Peace at Welland library
On Saturday Welland Public Library will host a celebration for International Day of Peace. Starting at 2 p.m. at the main branch downtown, Karl Dockstader of the Oneida Nation will lead a traditional opening address celebrating peace, friendship and unity. The Play for Peace event will also feature Mark Chindemi of Chinwa Rhythms, who is a drum therapist and music teacher. He will lead a drum circle and teach rhythms using instruments such as African flutes, didgeridoos and djembes. All are welcome to attend and participation is encouraged. learn how to lead healthy and balanced lifestyles, The series, at the Seaway Mall branch, will feature topics such as exercise and yoga, ways to keep your mind sharp, and tools that can make daily tasks much easier. It is a part of the Ontario Seniors Community Grant Program. There are currently four scheduled dates, each beginning at 2 p.m. on their respective days: Sept. 26, gentle chair yoga; Oct. 17, elder abuse prevention; Oct. 31, maintaining brain health; Nov. 28, succeeding in safety and mobility, and ask the pharmacist.
