Comedy play raising funds for Community

- TRIBUNE STAFF

Community Living Port Colborne/Wainfleet is putting on a comedy show to raise funds for the centre and its programs.

On Oct. 14 and 15, the original show Gossiping Gourmets will be on stage at Community Living Port Colborne/Wainfleet at 100 McRae Ave. in Port Colborne.

The play features the talents of Rosemary (Subosits) Shaw from Welland and Rita Smith, community and family support services co-ordinator for Community Living, who play two cooking show hosts, Marta Diddle and Julia Kidd. The women have been bitter rivals for more than 30 years, but are thrown together for a new show, Gossiping Gourments, in an effort to save their careers. The show’s director/producer and Marta’s son, Stephen Diddle, played by Casey Fournier of Wainfleet, tries to handle the pair.

Shaw said the show involves audience participation and alludes to or mentions local cities, restaurants, clubs and people in the community. She said the local touch makes the play even more of a treat to watch.

Tickets for the show are $15 and are available by calling 905-8358941 ext. 0. All proceeds from ticket sales go to Community Living Port Colborne/Wainfleet.

On Oct. 14, doors open at 7 p.m. with the show beginning at 8 p.m. Wine, beer and soft drinks will be for sale with complementary hors d’oeuvres.

Oct. 15’s show begins at 2 p.m., with doors opening an hour beforehand. Complementary tea, coffee and desserts will be available.
