With only 13 more weeks until Christmas, it’s time for the annual Rose City Kids Golf Tournament.

All proceeds from the tournament Friday, Sept. 29, will support Rose City Kids.

Organizers Tim Proctor and Gerry Vermeer purchase Christmas gifts and food baskets each year for the local organization. The first $10,000 raised will be used to purchase gifts for about 500 children who are supported by Rose City Kids.

Vermeer said each child receives two gifts, one for Christmas and one for their birthday. The rest of the money will go towards creating about 120 food baskets.

Families who reach out to Rose City Kids receive assistance from the organization. Vermeer said anyone in need should contact the charity by calling 905-788-9800.

The fund raiser golf tournament has been held for the past four years.

For Vermeer giving back to the children of Welland has been important. He said he helped wrap Christmas gifts for the charity years ago, and all they could afford was brown wrapping paper. He said after that experience he wanted to make sure children received brightly wrapped gifts.

“Rose City Kids is a phenomenal organization and I hope to help change lives in Welland,” he said.

The tournament, at Riverview Golf and Country Club in Fenwick, will begin at 11 a.m. Tee-off is at noon.

Each ticket, which costs $110 a person, includes lunch, dinner, one drink, golf and a cart. People are encouraged to sign up in advance as there are only 144 spots.

To register contact Proctor at 905892-8787 or Vermeer at 905-7144141.
