Good outweighs bad

-

In the aftermath of the terror attacks, my mind went to last Wednesday and three acts of kindness I experienced.

That afternoon I was taking my friend shopping and was struggling to get his wheelchair into my car. A young woman rushed to help.

In one store my friend decided to buy a large item. I had to wheel him with one hand and carry the purchase with the other. A lady came alongside and took the large item to my car, even though her car was in the opposite direction.

When I had settled my friend in the car, an elderly gentleman arrived to help me with the wheelchair.

Each one of these angels came at a time I needed help but was not expecting it. How many other people experienced kindness from strangers that day? In a city like ours, probably more than we realize. Truly, the good outweighs the bad. I am certainly grateful for these people and give thanks for the many others who make the world a better place.

Irma Bull St. Catharines about food.

Feast Street Niagara, held on the weekend of Sept. 30 to Oct. 1, made me change my approach to eating the food. On the first day of the festival, I had a big lunch and supper. Then I tried some $3 tasters and was too full. I remember my doctor saying that people eat way too much food.

So, on the second day, I concentrated on the tasters. And guess what? They were filling.

The pork slider from Billy Bones was very satisfying. The same goes for the pizza slice from Rose City Pizza.

Not only was the food great, but so was the entertainment. On Saturday from noon to 11 p.m. there were different performers every hour. I couldn’t believe the band Vinyl Flux was on for only 45 minutes. They normally do two-hour shows at other festivals.

Next year I’ll be making Feast Street an all-day event. Every two hours I will have a $3 taster while listening to different performances. Long live $3 tasters, long live Feast Street Niagara.
