Pelham motorcyclist charged criminally for dangerous driving
A Pelham man faces several criminal charges after residents complained to police about dangerous driving incidents earlier this year. In the June, the Niagara Regional Police began receiving calls from numerous residents of Pelham about a man driving a blue and white Suzuki sport bike in the areas of Regional Road 20, Welland Road and Canboro Road in Fenwick. Complaints included concerns the motorcycle was being driven in a “reckless manner” at speeds in residential areas above 140 km/h, with the rider allegedly pulling “wheelies” along residential streets, police say in a media release. The behaviour began to escalate and culminated in the driver pulling high-speed wheelies on three separate occasions through a Port Colborne school zone, followed by flight from police, says the release. A joint investigation, involving uniform officers from the Welland and Port Colborne offices, along with information from the Ontario Provincial Police, resulted in the arrest on Tuesday of Thomas Cody Duggan, 25. Duggan is charged with three counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, theft under $5,000 and five counts of breach of a recognizance order. In addition Duggan faces a number of provincial offence charges including driving without insurance, not having a licence plate and failure to register a vehicle. Police say they are still investigating a number of complaints involving this male, and the number of charges both criminal and provincial offences is expected to rise. Police are asking that anyone who had an interaction with a motorcyclist either on a blue and white Suzuki or an orange Honda sport bike to contact the investigating officers or detectives from the 3 District Welland criminal investigation branch at 905-688-411 ext. 3300.
