Asselin rolls to 2-1 win
After a slow start, Niagara and Ontario Hall of Famer Paul Asselin appears to have his 2017-18 Niagara 5-Pin Mixed Pro League season back on track.
Asselin lit up the lanes with a stellar 835 (306. 252, 277) set to lead the Ravens to a 2-1 win over the Lakeside Electrical Lightning. P.J. Cole backed Asselin up with a solid 733 (238, 276, 219) while Rich Vassos added 693 (257, 231).
The Lightning answered with Tyler Wendel’s 798 (231, 309, 258) and Jeff Stevens’ 667 (232, 248).
In the evening’s closest match, decided by only 55 pins, the Pepperonis edged the Host Pub & Grill Half Pints 2-1. The Pepperonis were led by Brian McFarlane’s 756 (261, 259, 236) while Mickey Pikor added 705 (222, 248, 235) for the winners.
The Half Pints shot back with Norm Stup’s 756 (275, 269), Shawn Pellizari’s 742 (241, 290) and Tim Dixon’s 708 (228, 283).
The Town Criers took two of three from the Crossfire Wrestling Piledrivers as Wendy Bonnette took the reins for the Town Criers, firing a solid 763 (277, 206, 280) while being aided by John Wendel’s 697 (276, 216).
The Piledrivers returned fire with Chantal Papineau’s 771 (297, 290) and Jason Pendlebury who chipped in with 752 (253, 243, 256).
In the evening’s final match the Canucks knocked off the Wine Place Whiners 2-1. Rob Fisher led the winners with 774 (237, 252, 285) while Mike Owen followed closely with 754 (223, 286, 245) and Rob Macdonald rounded out the scoring with 705 (243, 293).
The Whiners were led by Valerie Vallee who rolled a steady 799 (291, 231, 277) and Wilma Vanderzwaag, who rolled 669 (248, 225).
