Visiting Brock ended the women’s university soccer season with a scoreless tie with Waterloo and a 1-0 victory over Laurier.

Marilena Spagnolo made seven saves against Waterloo and two versus Laurier to end her sophomore season with seven shutouts.

Ashely Harris scored for Brock, which finished league play with a 5-9-2 record. Badgers open 1-1 Christina Ieradi scored two power-play goals, Hunter Accursi two even-strength markers, and Brock defeated visiting UOIT 5-1 in women’s university hockey Sunday at Seymour Hannah Sports and Entertainm­ent Centre.

Amanda Ieradi also scored as the Badgers rebounded from a 2-0 loss to visiting Queen’s in their home opener.

Brock men fall to 0-3-0-1

Adam Lloyd’s even-strength goal and Evan Morden’s shorthande­d marker was all the offence Brock could muster in a 3-2 loss to McGill in men’s university hockey Saturday in Montreal.

The Badgers, who fell to 0-3-01 in league play, were outshot 5223. Mitch Nardi, Brandon O’Quinn and Chris Maniccia scored for Brock in a 5-3 loss to Concordia the night before, also in Montreal.

Clint Windsor played both games in net for the Badgers.

Badgers net title

All five Brock starters reached double digits in scoring as the Badgers defeated visiting Ryerson 97-86 to clinch the RBC Classic title in men’s university basketball at Bob Davis Gymnasium.

Cassidy Ryan, with 21 points; Daniel Cayer, 18; Joheil Simpson, 13; and Tyler Brown, 11; also were standouts on offence for Brock.

Brock’s starters also scored in double digits in an 82-70 victory over visiting Calgary the night before: Simpson, 18 points; Elgadi, 17; Ryan, 13; Brown, 11; Cayer, 10. Islanders strand Badgers Brock ended the women’s university basketball pre-season with a 63-51 loss to Prince Edward University at the Laval tournament.

Kristin Gallant paced the Badgers in points with 14, while Welland native Courtney McPherson, a transfer from Niagara College, registered a double double in the loss with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Stephanie Findlay, with 17 points; and Ana Caldeira Rua, 10; top Brock in scoring in a 69-56 loss to the host team at the Quebec City tournament.

What a run for Brock

Brock was a happy host on the weekend winning the men’s title and finishing third in the women’s division at the Brock Open cross country meet.

Sophomore Paulina Sergnese led Brock on the women’s side finishing third overall for the bronze medal in a time of 19.10 over the 5K course.

Senior Joanna Francolini, 19.41; and Cassandra Hinz, 21.14; placed sixth and 17th overall.

Laurier and Trent beat out Brock for team honours.

First-year transfer Jeremy Mol was the top finisher among the Brock men. His time of 23.46, over 8 K; was 11th overall and third among varsity runners.

Aric Emiry, 24.06, 15th; Owen Grabell, 24.06, 16th; Dan O’Rourke and Umberto Lopardo, both in a time of 24.11; placed 22nd and 24th, respective­ly.

In the men’s team category, Brock defended its title by edging Waterloo by three points.
