Costume party

-

Sure, you could step out this Halloween as something spooky — or you can be on-trend (in a Halloween-y kind of way, of course) by taking costume inspiration from pop culture. We scoured the internet to learn which costumes have everyone buzzing. And this year, instead of unicorns (still somewhat cool), zombies (because, yuck) or sexy ... well, everything, the top costume trends appear to be taking a page from Hollywood films, TV moments and one reallife figurehead that’s the star of some people’s nightmares. Aleesha Harris highlights the top costumes on social media — and beyond.

For the pets

Yep, you guessed it ... a roundup of Halloween costumes wouldn’t be complete without considering the options available to our furry friends. From superhero costumes such as Batman and Superman, to laugh-inducing getups such as sushi rolls and lobster tails, there are a host of options available to ensure the whole family gets in on the costume fun.

Trump

First he was a businessman, then a reality TV star, and now he’s president of the United States. But, throughout all his roles, one thing about Donald Trump has remained much the same: his appearance. (That hair. That tan. Those suits.) Whether you opt for an easy mask-and-suit combo, or go all out with an orange-hued spray tan and lifelike wig, one thing’s for certain: If you opt to dress like Trump this Halloween, you surely won’t be alone. $34.99 | Thecostumeshoppe.com

A ... giraffe?

Perhaps the oddest of the apparent costume trends we discovered is a giraffe. According to a report from the teams behind the social sharing site Pinterest and global fashion platform Lyst, searches for topics and terms such as giraffe makeup, giraffe costumes and giraffe print have increased by up to 1,200 per cent from last year. That’s a lot of animal interest.

For the kids

Children’s costumes are also taking inspiration from the film and TV world with pre-made costume kits offering the likes of The Flash, Iron Man, The Little Mermaid, Belle and many more. But, aside from superheroes, it’s all the usual sweetly spooky suspects for the little ones this Halloween.
