Top chef for Don Cherry’s opening Welland restaurant
Don Cherry’s restaurants are as unique as his suits, says Tim Turner, owner of the soon- to- open Don Cherry’s in Welland.
He and his wife Alda are hoping to have a soft opening on Monday, but he says the Niagara Street restaurant might be open as early as this weekend.

The co- owners have brought their own flare to the business with some tasty bites. For example, Turner says people can look forward to ordering bacon in a bucket. The greasy treat is cooked with maple syrup.
Turner, who is executive chef of the entire Don Cherry’s chain across Canada, says he first came across the bacon bucket in British Columbia. The owner there was serving it up and he fell in love with the juicy taste.
The atmosphere of Don Cherry’s Welland will be everything sports. There will be 24 TVs and one big screen for patrons to catch whatever big game is on that night. Turner says the restaurant can show four different sports games at the same time, so there will be something for everyone.
When it comes to Toronto teams — the Maple Leafs, Raptors, Blue Jays — patrons can expect a deal when dining on game day. Turner says wings will be at a special price during all Toronto games.
“I think Don Cherry’s has the best wings — they are a really big wing,” he says.
The Turners have been owners of the Parry Sound Don Cherry’s for two years.
Alda Turner says they were approached by the management team at Canada’s Best Value Inn about opening a location in Welland.
Tim Turner, who’s originally from Beamsville, says coming to Welland is like a reunion for him.
