IceDogs add grit, size to their lineup

-

The Niagara IceDogs have acquired overager Adrian Carbonara from the London Knights in exchange for a fourth- round draft pick in 2020.

The 6- foot- 2, 204- pound forward had 26 goals and 55 points as well as 245 penalty minutes in parts of three seasons with the Barrie Colts and parts of two with the Knights.

He had four goals and four assists in 20 games with Barrie and eight goals and 17 assists in 43 games with London last season.

On their website the IceDogs described Carbonara as a “physical forward who brings a veteran presence to our offensive core.”

General manager Joey Burke said the acquisition addresses a need for more grit and size.

“Adrian brings a wealth of experience to our lineup,” the general manager said. “He works extremely hard and doesn’t back down from any battle.

“He brings a new dynamic to our top six, and we also believe that he doesn’t get enough credit for his offensive ability.”

Carbonara, 20, of Maple, Ont., left London with the Knights’ best wishes.

“We would like to thank Adrian for his time here in London,” Knights general manager Rob Simpson said. “Adrian will be able to bring his veteran presence to a young IceDogs team, and we are excited to be able to give him this opportunity.”

At the time of the trade Carbonara had three goals and two assists and 28 penalty minutes in 11 games with the Knights.
