Lightning strike down league leaders
At the beginning of this week’s Niagara 5- Pin Mixed Pro League action, the Lakeside Electrical Lightning were mired in last place, and the Crossfire Wrestling Piledrivers were holding on to top spot in the league standings.
When the dust settled, the Lightning were able to take two of three from the Piledrivers.
Norm Stup powered the winners with a stellar 783 ( 279, 267, 237), while getting help from Tyler Wendel, who fired 754 ( 243, 292, 219).
Despite coming out on the short end on the scoresheet, the Piledrivers were able to keep it close due to a fantastic performance by Chantal Papineau, who rolled a fantastic 891 set.
One week after Matt Kowalyk rolled the first 400 single of the season, last year’s Southern Ontario representative at the Canadian National Championships in the ladies singles competition topped that and set the bar a little higher by shooting a lane- scorching 410 single.
Papineau was aided by Brian McFarlane’s 796 ( 305, 229, 262).
In the evening’s closest match, decided by a mere 24 pins, the Scorecard Harry’s Half Pints edged the Wine Place Whiners 2- 1.
Rob Macdonald made his first week of the new year count, as he paced the Half Pints with a solid 781 ( 309, 275) while getting help from Kowalyk, who added 677 ( 232, 281).
The Whiners shot back with Sara Kennedy’s 769 ( 268, 215, 286) and Rich Vassos, who checked in with 635 ( 253).
The Oh Canada Eh Dinner Show Town Criers knocked off the Oh Canada Eh Dinner Show Canucks 2- 1 as Chris Disher lit up the lanes with a sparkling 835 ( 323, 271, 241). P. J. Cole backed him up with 789 ( 296, 266, 227).
he Canucks answered with Rob Fisher’s 790 ( 221, 248, 321). Shawn Pellizari was close behind, tossing 766 ( 249, 308).
In the evening’s final match, Paul Asselin took the reins for the Reggie’s Renovations Inc. Hammerheads, shooting a fantastic 840 ( 284, 305, 251) as they defeated the Dale Mellway Life Insurance Magic 2- 1. Asselin was helped along by Frank Newman’s 686 ( 229, 245) and Jeff Stevens’ 667 ( 246, 253).
The Magic replied with Adam Eckhardt’s steady 744 ( 240, 237, 267).
