SIU probing police incident involving injury
Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating a Wednesday incident that left a St. Catharines man in hospital with serious injuries. Neither the Special Investigations Unit nor Niagara Regional Police are saying why police were called to a residence near Manchester Avenue and Whitmore Street Wednesday at about 9 p. m., nor what kind of injuries the man suffered.
An SIU news release says there was an “interaction” with a man in the house who was arrested.
The man was taken to hospital “where he was diagnosed with a serious injury,” the SUI release said. The SIU investigates all incidents involving police in Ontario that results in serious injury or death. An NRP spokeswoman said the service cannot comment on the incident while an SIU probe is ongoing.
