1,000 within reach
Tyler Wendel is leading all bowlers in the Niagara 5- Pin Mixed Pro League and it is no secret why.
Although he has hit the vaunted 1,000 triple mark before, he came very close to doing it again.
Wendel was just off the mark, by a mere five points, and a model of consistency as he tossed the league’s highest set of the season so far, a 995 ( 325, 336, 334) to lead the Lakeside Electrical Lightning to a 2- 1 win over the Wine Place Whiners.
The Lightning were helped along by Norm Stup’s 770 ( 268, 240, 262).
The Whiners answered with Sara Kennedy who had her best night of the season, a sparkling 891 ( 220, 344, 327) set while getting help from John Wendel’s 836 ( 217, 360, 259).
In other matches, the leagueleading Crossfire Wrestling Piledrivers took one on the chin, as they dropped a tight 2- 1 match, decided by only 58 pins, to the second- place Oh Canada Eh Dinner Show Town Criers.
Chris Disher led the winners with a solid 773 ( 246, 299, 228) while P. J. Cole backed him up with 696 ( 273, 248).
The Piledrivers shot back with Brian McFarlane’s 779 ( 228, 241, 310), Wendy Bonnette’s 724 9234, 242, 248) and Chantal Papineau who was right behind with 721 ( 212, 265, 244).
The Oh Canada Eh Dinner Show Canucks took two of three from the Dale Mellway Life Insurance Magic as Rob Fisher paced his squad with 816 ( 241, 326, 249) with Shawn Pellizari backing up his efforts with a 754 ( 261, 274, 219).
The Magic replied with Dave Pendlebury’s 732 ( 215, 326) and Adam Eckhardt’s 649 ( 230, 258).
In the evening’s final match, the Reggie’s Renovations Inc. Hammerheads defeated the Scorecard Harry’s Half Pints 2- 1 as Paul Asselin led the winners, clocking in at a shade under 900, rolling a 895 ( 335, 336, 224).
His whole team aided in the win, sparked by Frank Newman’s 771 ( 292, 293) Jeff Stevens’ 715 ( 244, 313) and Wilma Vanderzwaag’s 714 ( 241, 255).
The Half Pints answer was led by Jordan Terry’s 755 ( 270, 274, 211) and Rob Macdonald, who checked in with 740 ( 268, 204, 268).
