Fisher angles high single in pro league win

- JEFF STEVENS

Rob Fisher is quietly putting together his best season in the Niagara 5- Pin Mixed Pro League, creeping up the men’s high average toward league leader Tyler Wendel.

This week in his final game he flirted with perfection, rolling five strikes in a row, before hitting a chopoff, which he spared, and then striking out the rest of the game, finishing with a fantastic 415, the highest single thrown in the league this season.

Added to his previous games of 264 and 296, Fisher finished with the second- highest series of the year, a blistering 975, to lead his Oh Canada Eh Dinner Show Canucks to a 2- 1 win over the league- leading Crossfire Wrestling Piledrivers in a match decided by a single twopin.

Fisher received help from Shawn Pellizari, who fired 751 ( 251, 274, 226).

Replying for the Piledrivers was Brian McFarlane, no slouch himself as he carded a super 845 ( 293, 304, 248), with help from Wendy Bonnette’s 720 ( 294, 256) and Chantal Papineau’s 700 ( 241, 264).

The second- place Reggie’s Renovations Inc. Hammerheads took advantage of the Piledrivers’ loss as they closed the gap between the top two spots to a single point heading into the final week of the second segment of the season by knocking off the Wine Place Whiners 2- 1.

Jeff Stevens had the hot hand for the Hammerheads tossing a solid 815 ( 231, 290, 294). Frank Newman wasn’t far behind, rolling 791 ( 273, 309).

The Whiners shot back with Sara Kennedy, who just missed the 800 mark, settling with 797 ( 254, 353). John Wendel was right behind with 776 ( 318, 258).

The Oh Canada Eh Dinner Show Town Criers brought the only broom of the night as they swept the Dale Mellway Life Insurance Magic 3- 0. Fern French paced the winners with a solid 788 ( 269, 327), while being helped along by Chris Disher’s 663 ( 243, 225) and P. J. Cole. who followed closely with 657 ( 228, 229).

The Magic answered with Adam Eckhardt, who checked in with 748 ( 229, 297, 222).

In the evening’s final match, the Lakeside Electrical Lightning took two of three from the Scorecard Harry’s Half Pints. Norm Stup led the Lightning’s charge throwing a steady 777 ( 272, 252, 253), while Tyler Wendel was a model of consistency, backing up Stup’s effort with 718 ( 239, 246, 233).

The Half Pints returned fire with Rob Macdonald’s 689 ( 210, 285).
