Policing rewards are not sustainable
As a taxpayer I am sick and tired how public funds are used as a feeding trough by our Niagara Region politicians, bureaucrats and public sector unions who are using us as milk cows for their own benefits.
Their reward systems are abusive and lack any sense of reality.
Police, professional firefighters, teachers, Ontario Hydro, the useless LHINs and many others on the public payroll are getting fat at taxpayers’ expense, while many taxpayers are struggling to make ends meet.
The outrageous buyout of $ 870,000 plus benefits and all the rest for retired Niagara Regional Police chief Jeff Chief McGuire is another example of contempt for taxpayers. For the police services board to make a deal like this is financial mismanagement.
The police service in Niagara needs a complete overhaul. Hold the line on its yearly budget increases. If they can’t meet the budget lay off police officers until they can. This free- for- all entitlement that the union is pursuing must stop.
A reward system has to reflect the merit of the work they do in a certain area. The same goes for professional firefighters. Comparing Niagara with Toronto is comparing apples and oranges. Policing in Niagara is easy in comparison with Toronto and salaries should reflect that.
When are people finally going to speak out about these practices?
This June we have a provincial election; do your homework, kick the Liberals out and, this fall, do the same to many at Niagara Region.
