Chorus Niagara singathon at mall this weekend

Seaway Mall’s centre court will be filled with the voices of Chorus Niagara on Saturday for the choir’s 12th annual singathon fundraiser.

The event features five hours of non- stop singing from the 100 members of Chorus Niagara, as well as the children’s choir, which will be performing at noon.

Diana McAdorey, managing director of Chorus Niagara, said they’re looking forward to being back in Welland. Directed and conducted by Robert Cooper, the groups will sing a variety of pieces from the choir repertoire between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Guest conduct ors from the community, including Brock University president Ger van Fear on and 91.7 Giant FM morning host Brian Salmon, will also be taking part in the day. Cooper will teach the guest conductors the basics before the show begins and help along the way.

McAdorey said last year $ 56,000 was raised by the singathon. The goal this time is to raise $ 55,000 to support the organization’s 54th performance season.

Chorus Niagara will be having a total of five concerts this season at FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre in St. Catharines; there are three remaining concerts.

Funds raised also go toward the Robert Cooper Choral Scholars Program, the Side- by- Side High School Chorale and the Chorus Niagara Children’s Choir.
