Integrity and transparency lacking
Politics in Niagara are in a state of chaos. There’s harassment and bullying — just look at what’s happening to Niagara Falls city Coun. Carolynn Ioannoni and Pelham Mayor Dave Augustyn.
There’s a lack of transparency in spending, with Regional Char Alan Caslin a prime example. His attitude smacks of arrogance and entitlement.
There’s the $ 40- million cost overrun on the Burgoyne Bridge; the controversy surrounding Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority management.
Then there’s former police chief Jeff McGuire’s very generous retirement package.
As taxpayers and voters we deserve better representation.
Whatever happened to integrity and transparency?
When we go to the polls in October, we must vote responsibly.

Lately, I have learned a thing or two about Saskatchewan through Alex Williams’ documentary The Pass System. It was an investigation of the First Nations experience in the prairie provinces where for more than 60 years, racial segregation was stepped up to include imprisonment.
When I listen to people argue the lame line that those on reserve had freewill to leave, I think if only people knew the truth.
There’s so much history and grief rising to the surface, but opportunities for better relations and deeper understanding are possible.
Saskatchewan, where do you go from here? Canada will be your witness.
