Wainfleet to update parking bylaw

-

Wainfleet will look at creating an emergency lane on Quarry Road, an accessibility only parking lot on Lakeshore Road at Reebs Bay beach, and give bylaw enforcement officers complete jurisdiction in the township at its meeting Tuesday.

A staff report from Mark Tardif, Wainfleet’s bylaw/property standards officer, said when the parking bylaw was amended in 2010, municipally owned property was not listed.

“This means that enforcement staff have limited jurisdiction over municipally owned properties,” he said in the report.

Enforcement staff, Tardif said, do not have jurisdiction to issue parking tickets on township property should the need arise.

Under the amended bylaw that will change, and bylaw officers will have the ability to issue tickets across the municipality.

Tardif’s report also said with past fires in the Reebs Bay area, a need to have water supply options for Wainfleet Fire and Emergency Services was highlighted.

One of those options includes taking water from a dry hydrant on Quarry Road, between Lakeshore Road and the bridge over the former quarry.

“Quarry Road is already a no parking zone on both sides of the road,” the report states.

“Installing emergency route signage will make the area more noticeable than just regular no parking signs. Additionally, the penalty for parking in the emergency route will be higher than the regular parking restrictions …”

Tardif’s report also talks about Reebs Bay beach, just off Lakeshore Road near Quarry Road and Oakwood Cemetery.

“In trying to make Wainfleet a place for everyone, staff is creating an accessible parking lot so persons with a valid MTO issued Accessible Parking Permit will have close parking and access to the beachm,” the report states.

“There are approximately 29 perpendicular parking spaces available in this location of which five parking spaces will be designated accessible parking.”

Wainfleet council meets at 7 p.m. in the township chambers, 31940 Highway 3.
