Teenaged girl dies in St. Catharines crash
A teenage girl was fatally injured in a head-on collision in St. Catharines, Wednesday evening.
The 17-year-old girl was a passenger in a 2006 Mazda 3, travelling eastbound on Pelham Road, west of Seventh Street Louth, when the crash occurred at about 10:15 p.m.
Niagara Regional Police say a 17-yearold St. Catharines male driver lost control of the vehicle, which crossed into the westbound lane and collided with a 2017 Dodge Ram pickup truck, driven by a 52-year-old woman from Lincoln.
The driver of the Mazda and one other passenger sustained serious injuries in the crash, and were transported to the St. Catharines hospital and later transferred to an out of region trauma centre. A fourth occupant sustained non-life threatening injuries.
The driver and passenger of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries in the crash, and were treated at the St. Catharines hospital.
Police spokesperson Stephanie Sabourin said police will not be providing the identities of the people involved in the collision, and would only do so with consent of the next of kin.
She said the investigation continues by the police collision reconstruction unit to determine the cause of the collision and if any charges will be laid. The coroner’s office is investigating as well.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact investigators at 905-6884111, ext. 5500.
