Ailing mom saw daughter married at hospital
Kim Sherwood, whose stay at Douglas Memorial Hospital in Fort Erie was brightened by the marriage of her daughter little more than a week ago, has died.
Heaven has “gained an angel,” says a Facebook posting by Chelsea Harper, the young bride who was married in a last-minute wedding at the hospital on March 13, so her ailing mother could be in attendance on her big day.
Kim, 48, died in her sleep on March 20, a week after her daughter’s marriage.
She was the wife and of Brian Sherwood, mother of BridgetteAnn, Cameron, Adam and Chelsea, and a grandmother to Jaxson Harper, the recently-wed couple’s young son.
Kim enjoyed camping, going to the YMCA for aerobic and yoga classes, family movie nights and just simply being with her children and watching them grow in their life experiences, says her obituary.
She was also very active with the Kinette Club of Stevensville.
Martha Lockwood, the pastor who married Chelsea and her new husband Jordan at the ceremony at Douglas Memorial, called Kim a wonderful daughter, wife, mother and friend.
“I am better for having known you. Until we meet again, dear Kim,” she wrote on Facebook.
Kim’s new son-in-law also called her a “wonderful” woman saying he hopes she is now able to rest in peace.
“You are gone but not forgotten,” he said in a Facebook post.
Kim’s family thanked the staff of Douglas Memorial Hospital, and the staff and teachers at Our Lady of Victory School “who have been amazing along with the numerous friends and family who have given us unbelievable support and help as we went through this journey,” her obituary said.
Kim’s family will receive friends on Friday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Benner’s Funeral Home on Benner Road. Funeral mass is Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church on Central Avenue.
