PUPO, Angelo Gabriel

-

With great sadness, but thanksgiving for a life well lived the family of Angelo Pupo announces his peaceful passing on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 in his 96th year. Angelo spent his final days the way he lived his life, surrounded by the love of his family. Beloved husband of Helen (nee Veltri) for 70 wonderful years. Cherished father of Gabriel (Carol) and Sylvia Peters (Gary). Proud and loving grandfather of Melissa Peters, Sarah Peters (Brian Armstrong), Gregory Pupo (Hatty Hong) and Graham Pupo (Azusa). Great-grandpa to Baby Armstrong and step-great-grandpa to Ariana Armstrong. Dear brother-in-law of the late Pat Veltri (late Hattie), Shirley Veltri (late Orland), Irene Sumbler (late Les), Ruby Veltri (late Ronald), Yoli Pellegrino (late Frank), and Carol Guité (late Dwight). Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his mother Annunziata, father Gabriel, step-mother Assunata and brothers Peter Pupo (Helen) and Vitorio “Victor” Pupo (Mary).

Angelo was born in Welland in 1922 and remained a lifelong resident of the city, retiring from Page Hersey. He instilled in his children and grandchildren the virtues of honesty, responsibility, integrity, and the value of a hard day’s work. Angelo enjoyed life’s simple pleasures with his family and friends and loved nothing more than tending to his garden, fishing, assisting Helen in the kitchen, whether they were canning or baking his family favourite muffins and watching the Blue Jays’ games on TV. His loss is immeasurable but so is the love left behind.

The family will receive friends at the H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland on Monday, March 26, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Parish Community of St. Kevin, 303 Niagara Street, Welland on Tuesday, March 27, at 11 a.m. Rite of Committal to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

The family would like to express a sincere thank you to long time family physician Dr. Evangelos Kouros and staff, Dr. Ziyaad Al-Khateeb, the staff and residents at Plymouth Cordage Retirement Community for their kindness, to LHIN (CCAC), especially PSW Kim for her exceptional home care and to the staff and nurses from the 3rd Floor South at the Welland Hospital for their warmth and compassion. A very special thank you the family’s dear friends, Louie Pelino and Bryce Musgrave, for sharing the joy of music and always bringing a smile to Angelo’s face.

As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation of Ontario and St. Kevin’s Food Bank or a charity of your choice. Online condolences available at www.cudneyfuneralhome.com
