Mr. Plant Geek coming to Falls
Self-professed Mr. Plant Geek, Michael Perry, will bring his unique take on horticulture to Niagara Falls this week.
Perry, considered to be among the United Kingdom’s most prominent horticulturalists, is renowned for his expertise in plant development and exploring gardening from a new perspective.
He’ll be at the Niagara Parks’ School of Horticulture Thursday for a lecture he calls “a weird and wacky visual journey” though the plant world.
The 38-year-old said he focuses on horticultural oddities because “they are the most fun.”
“Plants do such cool stuff, and many people don’t realize it,” he said.
His presentation will include a look into more than 50 plants.
“Including plants that can move themselves, plants that camouflage themselves, plants that can kill,” he said.
“Also, the biggest, tallest, longest, plus some naughty plants, too, so I hope I won’t make the Niagara audience blush too much.”
Charles Hunter, Niagara Parks director of horticulture, said Perry has a “very different and fresh take on horticulture.”
“He spends a lot of time travelling and out in the field and he’s able to connect very quickly to what’s going on and what’s new in the scene, which is very intriguing to a lot of people.”
Perry also has a strong social media following, which he says is the perfect platform to “express myself and to display my skills to potential new opportunities.”
“The reach is infinite, too, which is so damn cool.”
The lecture takes place 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Niagara Parkway facility. Admission is $25. For further information, visit niagaraparks.com/events.
