SZAFRAN, Henrika “Riki” (nee Van Oosterwijk)

Riki quietly left us to reside in the arms of God, on Saturday, April 7, 2018. Riki was 88 years of age. She was predeceased by her husband Theodore “Ted”. Riki was the loving mother of Brigid (Peter Pennacchietti), of Fonthill, Mary Anne (Bradley Todd), of Lowbanks and Terri Capone (Chris Johnston) of Welland. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Candace (Adam Craig), Courtney Pennacchietti and Breeanne (Rich Proulx). Riki was “Omie” to her greatgrandchildren Joshua Pennacchietti, Paetynn and Paige Zayac and Nevaeh Proulx. As a young woman in Holland, Riki met an amazing soldier during the second world war. They married and a few years later ventured to Canada to begin their new life. Riki became an entrepreneur and was the original owner of The New Delicatessen in St. Catharines. She would often speak about her fond memories and many patrons and friends she made during those years. She was a kind-hearted woman who would make everyone she met feel special! We will miss your “Spanish Eyes”. Now you and Dad can dance together in Heaven to your favorite song. Friends will be received at the BOCCHINFUSO FUNERAL HOME, 2 Regent Street, Thorold, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2018 with Vigil Prayers recited at 3:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at OUR LADY OF THE HOLY ROSARY CHURCH, 21 Queen Street South, Thorold, on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. followed by the Rite of Committal at Lakeview Cemetery, Thorold. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Our sincere thanks go out to the Staff at Northland Pointe in Port Colborne, for their compassion and care shown to Riki.
