Bowler shows hall of fame form in win

With one week to go in the Niagara 5-Pin Mixed Pro League season, hall of famer Paul Asselin is heating up the lanes at the right time.

Continuing his recent torrid pace, the Welland bowler rolled his third consecutiv­e 800 series, a sizzling 869 (230, 315, 324) to lead the Reggie’s Renovation­s Inc. Hammerhead­s to a 3-0 pounding of the Oh Canada Eh Dinner Show Town Criers.

His efforts have spearheade­d the Hammerhead­s climb to second place from sixth place over the past month as the league heads into the final week of the season.

Asselin was helped along by Frank Newman’s 707 (214, 245, 248).

The Town Criers answered with Myke Mercier’s 618 (257).

In other matches, the league-leading Scorecard Harry’s Half Pints kept their grip on first place by knocking off the Oh Canada Eh Dinner Show Canucks 2-1.

Rob Macdonald had the hot hand for the Half Pints leading the way with a fantastic 805 triple (200, 325, 280), while getting help from Mickey Pikor’s 663 (226, 255) and Mike Owen’s 662 (280, 230).

The Canucks replied with Rob Fisher’s 689 (253, 232).

Brian McFarlane displayed a little of his team’s nickname as he tossed a lanescorch­ing 808 (204, 266, 338) to lead the Dale Mellway Life Insurance Magic to a 2-1 win over the Lakeside Electrical Lightning.

Joanne Durocher contribute­d to the win, rolling 729 (220, 263, 246), while Matt Kowalyk rounded things out with 688 (239, 227).

The Lightning struck back with Tyler Wendel’s 737 (248, 258, 231) and Shawn Pellizari’s 691 (278, 213).

In the evening’s final match, the Wine Place Whiners took two of three from the Crossfire Wrestling Piledriver­s 2-1.

Leading the overall team effort in the win were Sara Kennedy, who rolled 683 (251, 216), Norm Stup, right behind with 682 (241, 245), and P.J. Cole, 681 (268, 210).

The Piledriver­s responded with Matt Vendittell­i’s 669 (243, 245) and Wilma Vanderzwaa­g’s 659 (238, 267).
