Father of 11 jailed on sex-related charges involving young girl

-

A father of 11 who made sexual advances to a nine-year-old girl and offered her alcohol and crystal meth has been sentenced to 90 days behind bars.

Christopher Perkins, 39, will also have his name added to the national sex offender registry for 10 years.

The former St. Catharines man pleaded guilty at an earlier date to three sex-related offences. He returned to Ontario Court of Justice in St. Catharines on Monday for sentencing.

Assistant Crown attorney Holly Nickel noted the offender essentially “groomed” the young girl on several occasions between September 2013 and May 2014.

“But none of us have a crystal ball,” she told the judge. “We don’t know how much further this would have gone.”

Court was told Perkins had several sexual discussions with the girl. He told her “how babies are made” and what sex toys he used and how Vaseline “makes them slide better.”

He also offered her alcohol and crystal meth, which the girl declined.

“The sexualization of children is deeply, deeply troubling,” Judge Fergus O’Donnell said.

Defence lawyer John Bothwell told the judge there has never been any allegations that his client acted inappropriately with his own children.

Perkins was also placed on probation for two years. During that time, he cannot be in the presence of anyone under 18 unless a person 25 or older and is aware of his conviction is present.
