Winless week for junior B lacrosse teams
St. Catharines still looking for first win
The St. Catharines Spartans junior B lacrosse club is still looking to crack the win column in 2018.
The Spartans, 0-5, had another winless week, as did the Niagara Thunderhawks, 2-3, and Welland Generals, 1-6.
Despite battling back from a 6-3 second-period deficit Friday night against the Elora Mohawks, the Spartans opened Week 3 of their junior B schedule with a 7-6 loss at home.
Nova Scotia native, and member of the Brock Badgers field lacrosse team, Connor Aquanno paced St. Catharines with two goals and two assists, while Welland’s Adam Kirchmayer added two goals for the Spartans.
Sam LeClair and Peyton McIntosh had the other St. Catharines goals.
Sunday night, also in Merritton, the Spartans were hammered 12-4 by the Six Nations Rebels.
Kirchmayer scored once and added two helpers in the loss, while Tyler Kolodka, LeClair and Alex Gaston also found the back of the net for St. Catharines.
Welland walloped on the road
The Welland Generals were outscored 24-4 in two road games during week three action.
On Thursday in Hamilton, Peter Hyrnuik and Mitchell Geoffroy bulged the twine in a 9-2 defeat. Three nights later Geoffroy, a St. Catharines native, and Talon Badawey were the lone goal scorers in a 15-2 loss to the Orangeville Northmen.
Thunderhawks grounded
Despite taking a 4-3 lead into the first intermission Friday night on Six Nations, Niagara was outscored 6-0 in the second period en route to an 11-7 setback.
Kent Baker-Printup had two goals for the Thunderhawks, while Trent Hunter, Aiden Buis, Reid Lowe, Chris Weier and Matt Mines added singles.
Evan Miller had four assists in the loss.
Sunday evening in Virgil, Niagara never led in an 8-5 loss to the Windsor Clippers.
Baker-Printup once again led the way with two goals and one helper.
Buis, Weier and Mines also found the back of the net in defeat.
