Canada’s ‘Indiana Jones’ to wrap up author series
Adam Shoalts to discuss Arctic journey
Adam Shoalts, nicknamed Canada’s ‘Indiana Jones,’ has been called the country’s greatest living explorer.
The Pelham native will share tales of his 4,000-kilometere solo journey across Canada’s Arctic last year and talk about his new book, “A History of Canada in 10 Maps: Epic Stories of Charting a Mysterious Land,” at the Canadian Authors Series in Port Colborne.
The storyteller, historian, archeologist and geographer — his first book “Alone Against the North: An Expedition into the Unknown” talks about the solo Arctic journey — is the series’ final author for the 2017-18 season.
Shoalts’ new book is described as a sensational retelling of Canadian history that turns traditional history on its head and gives readers the bloody, epic and spectacular history of a land that came to be called Canada, a release from the authors series said.
It explores the Vikings to the battlefields of 1812, French explorers and First Nations.
Shoalts appears at the Roselawn Centre in Port Colborne on Thursday, May 31. There are still tickets available for his talk.
While the series wraps up for this season, series head Elizabeth Madronich said she already has next season’s first author lined up.
Giles Blunt, an award-winning, novelist, poet, screenwriter and creator of the Cardinal mystery series, opens the series on Sept. 27.
Each event includes a 7 p.m. reception with a live band, followed by the author’s presentation at 8 p.m., a question-andanswer period and book signing afterwards.
Tickets are available for $30 (cash only) at the Port Colborne Library or if you are from out-oftown by calling 905-788-5345. Passes for next season are already available for purchase. Each pass is $160 tax in, which includes all seven events from September to May.
