Niagara Spears go 4-0 on gridiron
Justin Succar caught two touchdown passes and teammate David Hart helped the visiting Niagara Spears defeat the Mississauga Warriors 39-9 in the Ontario Provincial Football League’s senior varsity division.
Chase Bowden and Josh Ferguson each rushed for a touchdown as the Spears improved to 3-1 with Saturday’s victory.
Mississauga remains winless at 0-4.
Placekicker Cole MacKinnon had five converts for Niagara, which put two singles on the scoreboard and also scored a two-point safety.
Adam Fyfe and Zack Lundy each had an interception for the Spears.
Niagara returns to the gridiron Saturday for a 7 p.m. kickoff at McMaster University against the 2-1 Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
Spears 27, Warriors 24
At Mississauga, Jacob Succer rushed for three touchdowns and visiting Niagara improved to 3-1 in the OPFL’s junior varsity division.
Owen Tofano, with a touchdown pass from quarterback Devon Schiller-Cleveland; and Chris Biano, three, one-point conversions; rounded out the scoring for the Spears.
Niagara visits the 3-1 Hamilton Ticats 4 p.m. Saturday at McMaster
University.
Spears 68, Warriors 0
Marshall McCray scored two touchdowns and had eight, onepoint conversions as the visiting Niagara bantams blanked Mississauga.
Adrian D’Gyves and Jacob Tessier, with two apiece; Cartell Edwards, Ian Maskaluk, Roshawn Maynard and Mikhail Sidun also scored touchdowns for the Spears, now 3-1 in league play.
This Saturday’s schedule has Niagara at McMaster University for a 1 p.m. game versus the 1-3 Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
Spears 32, Outlaws 14
At St. Catharines, Gabe DiSanto threw touchdown passes to Josh Boyle, Tal Ibrahim and Landon Ledger and added two converts to lead Niagara’s Tier 2 junior varsity past Orangeville.
Ibrahim also rushed for two touchdowns as the Spears evened their record at 1-1 with Friday’s win under the lights at Kiwanis Field.
Niagara hosts Toronto TNT Express, 0-2, in an 8 p.m. kickoff this Friday.
Tiger-Cats 42, Gamblers 19
Aiden McKinney had three touchdowns and a two-point conversion, Nick Tilk had two touchdowns, and the Ticats emerged as top cats in Niagara Regional Minor Football Associa-
tion elite junior varsity action at Kiwanis Field.
Elijah Lovegrove and Justin Dawe rounded out the scoring for the Ticats with a touchdown and two, two-point conversions, respectively.
Jack Foretold, Chris Long and Ben Stewart had a touchdown each for the Gamblers.
