Spears go 0-3 on London road trip
Niagara record drops to 3-4 in advance of game against winless Guelph
The visiting Niagara Spears dropped a 40-3 decision to the London Jr. Mustangs to fall to 4-3 on the year in the Ontario Provincial Football League’s premier varsity division.
Cole MacKinnon kicked a field goal in the fourth quarter to account for the Spears scoring.
London improved its record to 6-0.
Niagara’s loss in the late game Saturday at City Wide Field in London wrapped up an 0-3 road trip for Spears teams.
After the Niagara bantams
kicked off the tripleheader with a 21-19 loss to the Mustangs, the Spears fell 45-22 to London in the Tier 1 junior varsity game.
Scoring for the Niagara bantams, who fell to 4-3, were Marshall McCray, with a touchdown and one-point convert; and Adrian D’Gyves, touchdown.
The win lifted London to 4-3 in league and into a three-way tie for first with the Spears and Essex Ravens.
Niagara hosts the 2-5 Vaughan Rebels in a noon kickoff Saturday at Kiwanis Field in St. Catharines.
Ethan Carmichael scored two touchdowns and Davon SchillerCleveland one the the Niagara junior varsity.
Chris Bianco kicked two, onepoint converts, and the Spears rounded out the scoring with a team safety.
The loss dropped Niagara to 3-4. London improved to 6-1.
Friday’s schedule has the Spears home to the 0-7 Guelph Jr. Gryphons in an 8 p.m. kickoff at Kiwanis Field.
Niagara’s lone win last week was a 30-26 defeat of the host North Bay Bulldogs in Tier 2 junior varsity.
The Spears improved to 4-1, thanks to scoring from Josh Morley, with two touchdowns; Tai Ibrahim, Landon Leger, one touchdown each; and Gabe DiSanto, four, one-point converts. North Bay fell to 1-4.
Niagara hosts the Vaughan Rebels, 5-0, in Saturday’s 4 p.m. game on the turf at Kiwanis
Field.
