After-dark ziplining comes to Niagara Falls

- ALISON LANGLEY

Wildplay MistRider Zipline has upped the adrenalin ante.

The popular tourist attraction is now offering night-time ziplining to guests.

“It’s an interesting sensation,” Rich Merlino, general manager of Wildplay Niagara Falls, said of the new illumination flights.

“The Falls are lit up significantly, but the area where you go down the gorge is pretty dark. There’s an element of surprise and uncertainty.”

Riders will wear a lighted arm band during the illumination flights, which they can keep.

While the after-dark ziplining doesn’t officially begin until today, the company did offer the rides last weekend to gauge rider reaction.

“The riders absolutely loved it,” Merlino said. “We received fantastic feedback.”

Single night-time illumination flights are $70.

The Mistrider Zipline opened in the summer of 2016. Its four high-speed, side-by-side lines descend a distance of 670 metres (2,200 feet) from Niagara Parks Commission’s Grand View Marketplace into the Niagara Gorge below. Rider speed depends on their weight. Speeds can reach up to 60 km/h.
