MAXFIELD, Charles “Max”

-

We are saddened and heartbroken to announce the passing of Charles Culver Maxfield “Max” on Monday, July 23, 2018. Remaining to forever cherish Max’s memory is his loving wife of 65 years, Billie; his children; Mark, Chris (Mona) and Susie (Herb); his grandchildren Lauren (Will), David and Olivia. He is also survived by his nephews David Senger (Kirsten), Steven Senger (Betty) as well as so many dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents Edwin and Elizabeth Maxfield, his sister and brother-in-law Anne and Wayne Senger and his father and mother-in-law George and Marguerite Downing. We struggled to find the words we felt would do more than just announce Max’s passing but would tell the story of who he was when he was alive. We want to write about the man whom everyone would recognize immediately if you knew him or perhaps the person you would have wanted to know. We want to write something funny so that if he could read this he would have a good chuckle. Just to hear Max laugh would bring a smile to anyone’s face. We are sure he would laugh if he read that we are absolutely perplexed as to what to do with all the things he has gathered in the garage over the years. Things he would never dispose of. We want to boast about his generosity and how he would help anyone in need. He could fix almost anything and usually had the part to fix it, somewhere in the garage. We want to praise him for being the best father a child could ever have. We always knew who to turn to if we were in trouble. However, you always knew where you stood and it just took one look. We want to brag about the things he would find or buy for his grandchildren, of whom he was always so proud, which would amaze and impress them. He was like their own personal Santa Claus, even in looks. We want to talk about the joy we have in knowing the love and devotion he had for his wife, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage. He could often be heard saying “Billie! I know what I’m doing!!” Max was an amazing, spirited and wonderful human being as well as an extremely devoted friend. Everyone adored him. He would welcome anyone into his home with open arms and an open bar. He absolutely loved a good party, a good laugh and a good glass of Scotch. We will miss him deeply. At Max’s request, there will be no service but there will be a celebration of his full and wonderful life announced at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted with Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905-354-2133). Memorial donations may be given to Heart Niagara or Niagara Dog Rescue.
