Mayoral candidate wants to ‘clean house’ in Wainfleet

- BRANDY FORD

Ken Martin is bold, brash and ready to get the job done.

Martin is in the running for Wainfleet mayor, and he says he is “fed up” with how the township is being run.

“I think the biggest thing is you can sit and complain about something or you can stand up and do something. Nothing’s going to change, so that’s why I’m running. I want to make a difference.”

Martin says he does not have any political ambition; he just wants to make changes for residents.

“This is not a stepping stone for me. I am doing a four-year term for the constituents of Wainfleet, and that’s it for me. I’m going to clean house, and that is exactly what is going to happen.”

Martin is a retired vet who served in the forces for 14 years, and he has a no-nonsense attitude about how Wainfleet needs to improve.

“I love the ’Fleet. I am passionate about this community. You can vote for me because I’m going to do what I

have to do. I’m just coming in to do a job and make it cost-effective. This is a business. You’ve got to look at it that way.”

Martin is upset about what he sees as unnecessary expenditures by council, yet, he says, there’s not enough focus on the fire department and its needs.

“They need pumpers every three or four years. To be safe we need to start budgeting, and we’re not. We need to budget for new vehicles for those boys. And I want our own training facility for the firefighters.”

Martin says his slogan is “I want to give the ’Fleet back to the ’Fleeters.”

“It’s my personal agenda to work for the constituents of Wainfleet. If I ruffle some feathers, oh well.”
